ENDING THE HOUSING GAME STARTS WITH THIS FEDERAL BUDGET

Canada is facing a housing and homelessness crisis. From first-time homebuyers locked out of the market to seniors losing their homes, people across the country are at a breaking point.
Federal and provincial leaders are working together to transform Canada’s economy for a better future, and we know that hinges on housing. The Housing Canada Coalition has a plan to address the challenges ahead of us, including immediate and long-term efforts to make sure that the housing system works for everyone. In this moment we have the opportunity to bring together all orders of government to develop an action plan to fix the housing crisis – starting with proven solutions from the people and organizations working on this issue every day.
As the new government develops their first budget, we’re looking for urgent action on the following priorities:
- Supporting young Canadians’ dream of owning their own home
- Creating a housing safety net to protect Canadians from losing their homes due to economic turmoil
- Doubling the supply of non-market community and supportive housing
- Significantly expanding for-Indigenous, by Indigenous housing solutions
At the same time, we need to lay the groundwork for the ongoing collaboration we need to solve the housing crisis for good. We're urging you to bring together provinces, territories, local communities and housing sector organizations to develop a national agreement with clear goals, timelines, and targets to end homelessness and fix the housing crisis. The solutions exist – we just need leadership and action.
Send an email to your local MP, Prime Minister Mark Carney, and Minister Gregor Robertson today and tell them that we need urgent federal action, and collaboration from all levels of government to deliver real results and ensure that everyone has a safe, affordable place to call home.
Let’s get building.
